paccetti_finalThe Eldritch Modular Synth Course is a free, four workshop affair with the magic of patching, primarily for newcomers to synthomancy - but still being of interest to intermediate musicians.
Learning modular synthesis can seem a bit daunting, since it is more like programming rather than playing music. However! It is easier than you might think. My philosophy is that it’s better to learn modular synthesis a bit unconventionally, rather than trying to understand it purely musically, to really get to the core of the concept.
We will use the free software VCV rack to learn. All you need is a computer to bring with you to class.

The course is held both physically and streamed digitally, every Wednesday between June 5-26, 18:00-19:30. We will be at KRUT, Malmö Stadsbibliotek. Discord will be used to synchronize the course, where you can also hang out with your fellow synth students and talk about it all in-between the sessions.

A little about me, your potential teacher: I’m an artist with a Bachelor in music composition from the Norwegian Academy of Music. I, so to speak, specialized in conceptual music and modular synth improvisations and compositions. I have previously taught synth workshops for IB Expo and tutored privately as well. I have been seen on stage in Malmö at Synth Babes festival, Eter festival, and Retreat Radio as well as several underground venues.

Course curriculum ¶

From bits and pieces, we do things backward and learn sequencing through creating our own!

How does a sawtooth become a triangle? What even is a filter? This and all kinds of waveform transformations await!

Beep boop! The secret to sample and hold and boolean logic is to think like a robot - root functions. Nothing is really that complex, not even the famed module “Maths”, if you understand the underlying principles.

Perform the ritual to bring forth your own unholy creation - the last workshop is dedicated to repetition and creating together. The course ends with a show and tell for those who are so inclined.
